So there’s this guy who has been an intermediary between a property owner in Florida and us (the architects) and the builder. He was also a realtor. No one has heard from him in a couple weeks. Hes stopped paying the builder. Today his girlfriend (he was living with her at her house) came forward and said she dropped him off at the T (subway for non-Boston people) He said it had been a great 15 years together and hes leaving and shes never going to hear from him again. It turns out this guy owes a lot of people a lot of money. He had been taking payments from some people to pay off others. We’re out some money, not a lot, but everything counts when your in an office of two people.

He just couldn’t figure out what “inbound” and “outbound” meant when in the middle. He’s probably at the same T stop, though it’s always possible that he was trapped by a Boston pothole like Robert Maitland in Concrete Island.

Sadly in my line of work (the lender) I see this all too often. I’ve got four lawsuits going right now for very similar circumstances.

I have the feeling someone will eventually find him in a river or ditch with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

who do you sue? this guy seems to have no collateral left behind. he had a driver, so no vehicle, lived with his GF so no house.

You sue him and hope he doesn’t file bk. Which is basically his only way out unless he hits with wind and goes off the grid. Unfortunately you rarely recover what you’re owed.

If this guy is saying his “goodbyes” to his longtime gf and burning all financial bridges he’s either REALLY good at scamming, he’s at the end of his rope and is going to take the easy way out or head to Mexico. Most likely option 2. Which I’ve also seen.

from what i’ve heard, he may have been planning an escape. It sounds like he was good at scamming people and hes gone off to enjoy thier money somewhere else, like Mexico

The proverbial empty bag. Hopefully he didn’t owe you too much money. I’ve seen contractors go bankrupt because they went too far down the line with a customer without getting paid.
